Leaving the Hotel Aquarius in Dubrovnik to catch the bus for the Old Town. This hotel was a shelling target during the war, but has been well restored.
Dubrovnik, Croatia, from the town wall. The brighter orange tiles are the ones replaced when the town was reconstructed after the 1993 shelling.
Mostar’s Old bridge was destroyed by shelling in 1993 then rebuilt using historically accurate methods in 2005. The bridge is the symbol of the town and attracts much tourism. No McDonalds yet.
From our hotel window in Mostar. Rebuilding Bosnia after the Balkan war is far from over. The damaged building on the right was a hotel built during the days of the Austrian-Hungarian empire.
